1. Winstin. The main character of the story. Winstin lives in Oceania, and questions the society.
2. Julia. The girl at Winstin's work, who Winstin does not like at first. After she gives him the note, they meet together, and Winstin falls in love with her.
3. O'Brien The man at Winstin's work who Winstin beleives to be different. O'Brien is more intelligent (and informed).
4. Big Brother/the party. The omninous rulers of the society in Oceania
5. Goldenstien The figurehead of the rebellion against the party.
6. Shop Keeper The man who owns the antique shop.

1. Office The Office in which Winstin works every day. It is where he meets Julia, O'Brien, and most of his aquiaintences.
2. His house/his corner His house, where he lives. His corner is the only place in his house where the telescreen cannot see, ergo it is his once place of privacy.
3. The Bar The area that Winstin spends time when he is not at home or work.
4. Antique Shop The shop in the prole areas of London. THe shop has peices of the "old London" (paperwights and paintings). The Antique shop has a room above the store that Julia and and Winstin Rents.
5. The woods Winstin and Julia meet in the woods.
6. The street The Streets of Oceania. A lot happens on the streets.
7. O'Brien's House Winstin and Julia go there to join the brotherhood.
8. Oceania (the country) The country in where these characters live.
9. Ministry of Love (Jail)** The ministry of love is the jail that the Party take Winstin to and where they torture him.

Important Events

1. Winstin writes in his dairy.
2. Makes eye contact with O'Brien.
3. Julia gives Winstin the note, they secretly meet.
4. They rent the room above the antique shop.
5. Both go to O'Brien's home to join the brotherhood.
